Something I love about Germany

October 7, 2015 by Karen Giebel 4 Comments

There’s a store here in Bruckmuhl named “Hagebau,” about a 10 minute drive from us that we frequent a lot. It’s sort of a miniature Home Depot or Lowe’s. It sells everything from Lumber to Garden Supplies to Kitchen Wares to Wine and Snacks. But each store is a little different and they have their own specialties. The store in Miesbach has tons of gorgeous Christmas decorations. The store near us has beautiful hand sewn pillows, curtains, drapes, aprons,  and tablecloths. Every time I go there I have to look at the display. There are women working there everyday, sewing away! These are just 2 of the tablecloths I have purchased and wish I could buy many more. ( I might just do that!) Some are rather countryish and some are very elaborate with embroidery and detailed cutwork.

My Chicken tablecloth has been in use all summer. Isn’t it just the cutest darn thing? I have a big green plant set in the center.

Yesterday, I found this Fall pumpkin tablecloth that just had to come home with me! The bright oranges and yellows of the pumpkins, sunflowers and pears contrast so nicely with the greens of the ivy vines. Just dar’ln! The pottery bowl with the Gourds and Hedgehogs seems like it was made to set on it.

Trust me, it’s not often I can pull off even the simplest of home decor. Other people are experts at decorating and I am somewhat envious. Me? I take care of people and cook. There’s always the cooking! Do you see Gracie poking her head out behind the table? That’s her daytime sleep spot.

Anyway,  the table is one that Udo and Klaus were throwing out. Can you imagine?!  I salvaged it as sort of a focal point for my plants and a couple photos.

We also have a Christmas tablecloth but its whereabouts totally eludes me at this point. I’m just so impressed with the craftsmanship involved in making these cloths and I hoped you enjoy seeing them too!

My daughter would love the chicken one. She has chickens now, had 6 now down to 5. She is a real “homemaker”. I know she didn’t get it from me. Love your stories Karen.

I love the recipes and the coffee grinder and the look at life. Don’t know how you cook so much great stuff and not gain weight but congratulations on both!
